The Port

Situated on the East Coast of the UK the Humber Estuary provides a natural Global Gateway, lying equidistant between London, Edinburgh and Rotterdam and is the UK's busiest trading estuary handling in excess of £84 million tonnes per annum. This equates to 15% of the UK's seaborne trade and 20% of UK imports.

The Port of Hull

TerminalThe Port of Hull is one of the UK’s busiest and most important short sea ports handling in excess of 13 million tonnes per annum. Trade has seen enormous growth during recent years, driven by the wide range of facilities and services offered including world class roll-on/roll-off, lift-on/lift-off, liquid and dry bulks, forest products, paper, general cargo and consumables. As the only passenger port on the Humber, Hull also handles 1 million passengers a year through the P&O Ferries services to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.

Its position as a principal port is maintained by a constant programme of capital investment in new facilities and services. Over the last 10 years nearly £100m has been invested in infrastructure and several multi-million pound schemes are currently underway.

The £35m Quay 2005 development will enhance existing facilities by creating a multi-purpose deep water terminal, including the reclamation of 7.5 hectares of dock and frontage and 9 hectares of development land.

The Port of Goole

TimberThe UK's premier inland port. A combination of location at the heart of the country's transport infrastructure along with extensive and expanding modern high quality facilities enables Goole to provide a rapid and cost effective service.

Located on the river Ouse, 80km from the open sea and 2km from the M62, only 30 minutes drive is required to reach the heart of West and South Yorkshire - the North Midlands and North West are within 2 hours drive. The port also has rail connections to many berths and canal connections to West and South Yorkshire.

A wide range of facilities are available for handling unitised, bulk and general cargo with a particular strength in containers, steel and timber. ABP has recently invested in the region of £7.5milion on new cranage, paving and storage facilities at the Port of Goole.

Port of Immingham

Immingham PortImmingham is one of Britain’s fastest growing Ports with a throughput of 55million tonnes in 2005. The combination of a strategic location on the south bank of the Humber, with extensive deep water facilities makes Immingham a market leader in the UK for both bulk and ro-ro traffic. ABP has invested £87 million on two capital projects; the Humber International Terminal (phase 2), which increases the terminal’s coal capacity to 9.5 million tonnes per year; and the construction of the Immingham Outer Harbour will provide a new riverside ro-ro terminal for DFDS. Both projects are scheduled to become operational in 2006.

Port of Grimsby

Grimsby Dock TowerGrimsby offers a natural route connecting Britain with mainland Europe and the rest of the world. The port’s strategic location – only 10 km from the open sea on the Humber estuary – makes it an ideal option for shipping services between the UK and Scandinavia, the Baltic, Germany and northern Europe.

The Humber Wharves
